Artist's Comment:

"I developed this painting through repeated layering, with marks added, obscured and worked back into as the surface began to build.  Some areas were allowed to remain dense and heavily worked, while others were opened up again, creating space amongst the movement.  As the painting developed, the marks became increasingly energetic, bringing a growing sense of rhythm and intensity to the finished work."

Poem for The Rush

It starts low,

a flicker,

a tightening,

something beginning to burn.

Warmth becomes heat,

heat becomes fire,

moving through,

faster now,

until the pulse is all you hear

and everything else falls away.

There is only this,

this heat,

this fire,

the rush.
