After The Holding
Original abstract painting
by Emma Procter
Created through layers of expressive brushwork, partially revealed marks and areas worked back into the surface, After the Holding moves between quieter passages and sudden, forceful gestures. Sweeps of blue rise through the composition, while darker marks gather and break through the centre, creating a strong sense of movement and release.
There is an intensity to the painting that feels as though something contained can no longer remain held. Energy pushes outward and upward, breaking into the surrounding space, while traces of what came before remain visible beneath the surface. After the Holding captures that moment when holding gives way to release, leaving what has been released, and what comes afterwards, open to your own interpretation.
