The Way We Return
Original abstract painting by Emma Procter
Created through layers of expressive brushwork, textured marks and areas worked back into the surface, The Way We Return explores the contrast between darkness and warmth, concealment and emergence. Deep charcoal tones gather across the centre of the composition, interrupted by flashes of burnt orange, golden ochre and softer passages of light.
There is a sense of movement within the painting, as though something once closed or impenetrable is gradually beginning to shift. Some areas remain dense and guarded, while others appear to open, allowing warmth and light to find their way through. The marks and layers suggest a history beneath the surface, with parts revealed and others still hidden.
