Artist's Comment:
"I built this painting slowly through layers, allowing areas to gather weight before scraping back and opening up the surface again. Ochres and warmer tones began to emerge through the darker marks, while traces of what had been there before were left visible.
I wanted the painting to hold that tension between what remains and what begins to open, a sense of returning, but not quite to the same place."
Poem for The Way We Return
There are places
that learn to close.
Not all at once,
but quietly,
until even the light
forgets the way through.
And then something shifts.
A loosening.
A space where there wasn’t one
Nothing asks to be opened.
Still,
something remembers
The way back.
