What Falls Away

What Falls Away abstract acrylic painting by Emma Procter

Acrylic on canvas

50.5 x 60.5cm

Artist's Comment:

"I built the surface through fragmented sections, allowing forms and marks to emerge, overlap and become partially obscured.  Some areas hold together, while others seem to break apart or recede into the darker surface.  I was interested in the sense of things shifting and rearranging.  What remains, what becomes less certain, and what quietly falls away."

Poem for What Falls Away

Things loosen here.

Edges give way,

forms break open,

and what was whole

begins to scatter.

Not everything that falls apart is ending.

Somewhere in the dark,

beneath what is disappearing,

something is already becoming.
