Artist's Comment:

"I worked with layers of darker colour, allowing earlier marks and fragments to remain visible beneath the surface. Areas of warmer colour move around and through the darker forms, while small marks and glimpses of light appear and disappear across the painting. I wanted there to be a sense of something being held together, while never feeling completely still or settled."

Poem for What It Takes To Hold

Some days

it is enough

that nothing falls.

That the doors still open,

the wheels still turn,

the small things find their places

as though they always have.

No one sees

what it takes.

The quiet gathering

of all the scattered parts,

the careful hands

around the edges,

the little less of you each time.

And somewhere beneath it all,

something broken

is carried still…

not mended,

not left behind,

simply held

alongside everything else.
